ANOMALY

ANOMALY is a large-scale outdoor light and water installation that transforms bodies of water into monumental cinematic projection surfaces.

The artwork represents a disruption in space-time, manifesting as an expansive 25/40m diameter spectacle of evolving aurora and nebula-like atmospheric light conditions. Through finely balanced projection and water screen technologies, ANOMALY creates light forms that appear to emerge, dissolve, and recombine across a shifting, mist-like surface of water. Its visual poetry invites audiences into a cinematic encounter of wonder — a place where narrative, natural spectacle, and digital form intersect. The work can be adapted for a range of sites and scales, with medium and large system formats available to suit various waterfront locations and festival commissions.

Originally commissioned by Galwad / National Theatre Wales for Unboxed Festival 2022, the work was installed on a lake in the slate mountains of Blaenau Ffestiniog (Wales) as the central piece for the finale of an ambitious week-long live performance event, which was broadcast live on Sky Arts.
