Interactive light painting installation Sym

Less than 10k

Sym is an interactive light painting installation that allows participants to playfully create light paintings using a prepared flashlight or smartphone light. Unlike traditional light painting, which involves taking a picture with a long exposure time and viewing the results afterwards, Sym immediately displays the results of the participant's painting. Additionally, Sym can generate a variety of symmetrical variations of the original light drawing.

Sym can be interacted with individually, but as you can see in the video, people can also paint with it together. It is fun to do so and encourages people to cooperate and coordinate their actions.

The resulting colourful images can be projected on a wall or on a projection screen. The light of the flashlights is captured by a full HD video camera, attached to an HDMI to USB interface. This interface is coupled to a fast laptop, running our self developed custom software. The generated moving images are sent to a 4600 lm video projector.
