Water Droplet

It is estimated that there is about 8.3 billion tons of plastic in the world up to date, of which 7 billion tons is marked as waste. Over 90% of it is not being recycled. The Droplet is a call for collective awakening, which puts ecology, water footprint and plastic waste in a spotlight. This installation utilises approximately 2000 bottles with a capacity of 1.5 litres each, which gives us 3000 litres. This extraordinary amount of water is needed to make a single 150g burger (average size of hamburger beef pate), and holds up to 780 000 microplastic particles. Our planet is literally chocking on plastic. We are consuming it on every-day basis without even realising it.

Droplet is our hope to bring reflection on how we can break our addiction to single-use plastic, and replace it with more sustainable alternatives. It is a design using 100% recycling bottles that were brought into the project by members of a local community. We hope that the communities from around the world can feel empowered to bring a movement allowing systemic change ending the uncontrolled flow of plastic waste.
