Lightlab 2022

Light Up The North

LIGHTLAB Artist Programme 2022

Applications are now closed

Light Up the North (LUTN) is a growing network of light festivals across the north of England.

The LIGHTLAB programme aims to nurture and develop artists working with light by supporting new and emerging artists through a bespoke package of opportunities provided by LUTN members and focused on increasing inclusivity and diversity in the sector.

LIGHTLAB is an opportunity for early to mid-career artists wanting to develop their practice in light based and digital work for light festivals. Across 2 weekends in October and November 2022, the project will offer up to six artists the opportunity to be supported through a bespoke programme of workshops, networking events and talks scheduled to compliment two LUTN partner festivals – Light Night Leeds (13&14 Oct) and Light Up Lancaster (4&5 Nov).

Six artists, selected through an open call, will each be awarded bursaries of £300 to participate in the LIGHTLAB programme, with additional funds of up to £400 each, allocated to cover travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs to attend Light Night Leeds & Light Up Lancaster, where the programme of activity will take place.

Selected artists will share their current area/s of research and development and workshops will be tailored to their specific interests. The cohort will benefit from peer to peer sharing as well as collective support from the core group of LUTN creative producers. Artists who are presenting work at Light Night Leeds / Light Up Lancaster will deliver workshops for the LIGHTLAB participants.

LIGHTLAB artists will also be invited to attend valuable networking events and meetings arranged by the host festival, eg artists brunch, launch events, festival tours, talks.

This open call actively encourages submissions from artists currently under-represented in the light festival sector including people from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds and those who identify as neurodiverse or disabled.

A freelance Producer will coordinate the project.

LUTN is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We positively encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. We welcome applications from anyone regardless of their age, disability, ethnicity, heritage, gender, sexuality and socio-economic background. Adjustments will be made to meet any access requirements you have.
